The Ecosystem

A wider landscape of action

GRLI is part of a wider landscape—an ecosystem of initiatives, institutions, and individuals working to transform leadership for global responsibility. Some stewarded by GRLI, some partner-led, some catalyzed historically, all contributing to collective change.

The co-stewardship model

Traditional organizational thinking emphasizes ownership, control, and growth. GRLI operates differently. We believe that the most important work cannot be owned—it must be held collectively.

Our role is catalytic: we help bring initiatives into being, nurture their early development, and then steward them toward independence. We measure success not by what GRLI controls, but by what flourishes in the ecosystem.

This approach requires a different kind of organizational identity—one that finds purpose in enabling others rather than accumulating for ourselves.

Principles
01

Catalyze, don't capture

Help initiatives emerge and grow without seeking to own or control them.

02

Steward toward independence

Success means initiatives thrive beyond GRLI's direct involvement.

03

Maintain the connective tissue

Keep relationships alive across the ecosystem, enabling learning to flow.

04

Hold the long view

Systemic change takes decades. We commit to sustained engagement.

GRLI

The ecosystem is not a hierarchy with GRLI at the center. It is a living network where each node contributes to and benefits from the collective inquiry.
