The 50+20 Agenda - iPad edition (2012)
The 50+20 Agenda presents a transformative vision for management education aligned with global sustainability and responsible leadership. Developed collaboratively by GRLI, WBSCSB, and PRME, this 2012 iPad edition calls for fundamental reform of business and management education, which has operated since the 1950s under an outdated expansion-and-consumption paradigm unsuitable for a resource-constrained world.
The agenda argues that current economic models based on unrestricted growth are obsolete and proposes reorienting education toward developing globally responsible leaders capable of addressing complex global challenges. Rather than educating students to be "the best in the world," the initiative advocates creating leaders who design and lead businesses to achieve "the best for the world." The document outlines three core roles for transformed management education: developing responsible leaders, converting research into applied work serving the common good, and engaging educators in public debate about economic transformation.
Framed around the 2012 Rio+20 Summit marking twenty years since the original Rio Earth Summit, the 50+20 Agenda positions management education as critical infrastructure for building a sustainable, equitable world worth living in. It introduces "Emerging Benchmarks"—exemplary initiatives demonstrating alternative approaches—as models for collaborative, transformative change across business schools and leadership development programmes globally.
