Copenhagen Business School (CBS) is Denmark’s largest and a globally recognized educational and research institution dedicated to business administration, economics, and social sciences. Deeply rooted in the Nordic socio-economic model, CBS leverages its strong interdisciplinary research capabilities to address the significant societal and business challenges of the 21st century. Through our comprehensive strategic vision, ‘We transform society with business’, launched in 2020, CBS is committed to nurturing transformative capabilities in students, graduates, and business leaders. Our strategic priorities include the Green Transition, Responsible Leadership, and Nordic Nine transformative competencies, which collectively reinforce our holistic approach to societal impact and ethical business practices.
By joining the Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative (GRLI), CBS aims to position itself actively within the global discourse on responsible and transformative business education. CBS seeks not only to deepen its impact through collaboration with a dynamic global community but also to contribute proactively to advancing the understanding and implementation of global responsibility across educational, societal, and business landscapes. Our goal is to foster a culture of continuous inquiry and innovation in responsible leadership that transcends disciplinary and geographical
boundaries.
CBS brings a strong and longstanding commitment to responsible management and leadership education and research. Having been deeply involved with the UN Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) since 2008, including past roles as PRME Champion and current Nordic Chapter Chair, CBS has integrated sustainability and responsibility deeply into its research and education fabric. Recognizing the inherent limitations of traditional membership models and the practicality of engaging and mobilising more than 600 full-time academic staff, CBS remains committed to transparent and inclusive global collaboration focused on meaningful and impactful action.
CBS Green Office implements and drives the sustainability and green transition efforts at CBS through cross disciplinary and cross departmental projects and serves as a platform for sustainability action both internally and by engaging external stakeholders. Currently, over 100 CBS faculty actively publish in sustainability fields, with sustainability featured prominently in 16% of CBS courses. Moreover, approximately 30% of CBS’s external research funding supports sustainability-related projects, illustrating our substantial academic and societal contributions to the global green transition. The CBS Sustainability Plan further reinforces these efforts, establishing clear, cross-institutional governance structures for comprehensive sustainability engagement. The CBS Leadership Centre further exemplifies CBS’s unique contribution by convening
interdisciplinary expertise to inspire actionable insights into responsible leadership. It actively bridges Nordic and global perspectives, fostering a dynamic community of researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to address complex societal challenges. Our transformative Nordic Nine capabilities represent another distinct contribution, ensuring all CBS students graduate with competencies that balance economic competitiveness with compassion, ethical rigor, and a profound understanding of global interconnectedness.
Through GRLI, CBS anticipates mutually beneficial collaborations that address critical ethical and societal challenges while promoting innovative and resposible leadership practices. CBS is eager to engage with GRLI partners to share our learnings and resources and collectively amplify our impact on global responsibility.
